Nick Labrocca named Most Improved Player for the Colorado Rapids (MLS)
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – Match Fit Academy's own and Rutgers’ former men’s soccer star Nick LaBrocca was named the Most Improved Player by the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer (MLS), it was announced. LaBrocca, the 35th overall pick prior to the 2007 season, recently completed his second year with the club.

CHELSEA ANNOUNCES MATCH FIT PARTNERSHIP

Chelsea Football Club today announced a partnership with the Match Fit Academy of New Jersey, one of the most successful youth soccer academies in America.
The partnership is the second major step in the club's nationwide Super Club Network initiative to partner with America's top youth soccer clubs.
As a result of the partnership, the Match Fit Academy side will now be known as Match Fit Chelsea and will host Chelsea-sponsored tournaments, training sessions with our coaches and player and coach exchange programmes.
Chief Executive Peter Kenyon said: 'Match Fit is one of the leading youth soccer academies in America. Our programs will exchange information and coaching techniques, with the goal of benefiting both organisations. Chelsea are committed to advancing the game of soccer at all levels in America, including the development of young elite players for professional sport.'
To kick off the new partnership, Chelsea's top academy personnel, Academy Director Neil Bath and youth coach Paul Clement, will join Match Fit for a coaching Q&A during the Academy's visit to America, which begins today.
Match Fit Director of Operations John R Calcaterra said: 'Partnering with Chelsea gives us the opportunity to not only stimulate the development of youth soccer in the Tri-State area, but across the entire country.
'Chelsea wants to develop the game and are opening themselves up to the sharing and collaboration of curriculum. This is a monumental partnership in the history of American youth soccer.'
Match Fit includes approximately 400 registered youth soccer players, girls and boys aged from four to 19. The academy is based in Central New Jersey and extends to New York and Pennsylvania.
Match Fit Director of Coaching and Player Development Malcolm Murphy said: 'We are incredibly honoured to partner with Chelsea as we will get an insider's look at their coaching philosophy and training techniques. We are excited about the trickledown effect from our Chelsea partnership, and how the club will influence our players. This partnership opens us up to a world of opportunity, as we will be exposed to the Chelsea brand of soccer.'
The Match Fit Academy Football Club is a non-profit educational and training organisation dedicated to providing the best instruction and character-building experience for youth soccer players. The academy identifies players with outstanding potential and places them in a learning environment designed to encourage personal development.

LaBrocca's ahead of the game
COMMERCE CITY — Underneath Nick LaBrocca's nest of New Jersey hair is a soccer brain few second-year players can match.
Like a young David standing with a pouch of stones, LaBrocca's path to professionalism is lined with fallen giants.
"When I was younger, I was the shrimp," LaBrocca said. "I always had to figure out a way to outsmart the bigger guy, the faster guy."
LaBrocca has been that guy in midfield for the Rapids this season. As one of several players thrust into a starting role because of injuries, the 23-year-old Rutgers product is playing with a calm urgency fueled by a dash of slight after he slipped to the 35th pick of the 2007 draft. While it will be a way to register online for any MFAFC program, you will also be able to view your club fees and payments. Each family and player will be required to register through this system for all MFAFC Programs (regular season, SYL, Camps and Clinics etc.).

CHICAGO (Nov. 30, 2007) – Fox Soccer Channel will televise all three U.S. Under-17 ’92 Men’s National Team games during the 2007 Development Academy Nike Friendlies, which are taking place from Dec. 6-9 at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla. All three matches are against international teams, with the U.S. U-17s taking on Brazil, Russia and Turkey during the weekend.

CHICAGO (Dec. 1, 2007) – U.S. National Team coaches selected twenty-nine Academy players for two U.S. National Training Select Teams participating in this week’s Development Academy Nike Friendlies. The Under-15/16 National Team Training Select team will be comprised of only Academy players born in 1992 and will be coached by, Keith Fulk. The Under-17/18 National Team Training Select team will be coached by Raul Diaz Arce and be comprised of Academy players born in 1990 and 1991 as well as current Residency players born in 1990.

MFAFC Alumni Sean Cameron named Players of the Week
TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced the USL First Division and USL Second Division Teams of the Week for the second week of the season, honoring Miami’s Sean Cameron and Richmond’s Robert Ssejjemba as the Players of the Week, respectively.
Rookie Sean Cameron is off to a good start as a replacement for Brazilian World Cup legend Romario. The Rutgers product led his club to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Seattle Sounders Friday night with a goal and assist.

USSF Shakes Up Youth Landscape
The U.S. Soccer Federation is launching the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, which promises to dramatically decrease the men’s national team program’s dependence on the Olympic Development Program to identify players. The Federation has started accepting applications from the nation’s elite youth clubs to run academy teams for U-16 and U-18 boys to compete in the academy’s regional leagues. Up to 80 clubs will be chosen by U.S. Soccer’s national team coaches to run academy teams.

MFAFC Member (U17 Boys team) Billy Schuler Score as U.S. Dominates the First Half vs Canada
The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team defeated Canada, 2-1, on Wednesday evening in their second match in Group B of the 2007 CONCACAF Final Round Qualifying Tournament at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.
In a see-saw affair, it was the U.S. that came out dominating with an almost flawless performance in the first half, which included goals from Billy Schuler and Mykell Bates.

Schuler Joins U17 National Team Residency Program
US U17 National Team Coach, John Hackworth extended Billy Schuler, MFAFC U17 an invitation to join the 40-player U17 National Team Residency program at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL... which resumed training in early-January 2007.
The IMG Soccer Academy is the United States Soccer Federation's (USSF) full-time residency program for the US Under 17 Men's National Team. Started in 1999, it has become integral in developing the United States top youth soccer prospects. The residency program gives elite players the opportunity to train in a professional environment as MLS does not have a youth academy system currently in place. The academy has grown from an initial 20 players to 30 in 2002 and then to 40 in 2003. The program is now split into a U16 squad and a U17 squad.
The IMG Soccer Academy is part of the IMG Academies located in Bradenton, Florida. A typical day for the student/athlete at Bradenton is classes in the morning followed by athletic training in the afternoon. Students at the academy take accelerated courses and graduate high school a year early, making the players who do not turn pro immediately some of the most heavily recruited prospects in college soccer.
The academy can trace its roots back to Project 2010 which highlighted ways the USSF could make the men's national team a legitimate threat to win the World Cup by the end of the decade. Two programs that were born from Project 2010 were Generation adidas (previously called Project-40) and the Bradenton academy. The academy was started in January of 1999 with backing of International Management Group (IMG) and Nike.

Match Fit Academy Alumnus Drafted by Colorado Rapids 
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Former Rutgers men's soccer player Nick LaBrocca (Howell, N.J.) was drafted by the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer as the ninth pick in the third round, and the 35th overall pick. The midfielder was one of five players chosen by the Rapids during Friday's draft, held in Indianapolis, Ind. Labrocca becomes the fifth RU player in six years to be drafted by a MLS team, joining former Rutgers standouts Chris Karcz, Josh Gros, Guy Abrahamson, and Dennis Ludwig.
"We've had a lot of former players play professional ball in the past and many for MLS teams," head coach Bob Reasso said, "and Nick really deserves this. He's done so much for the program and I'm delighted he gets the opportunity to play out a childhood dream."
LaBrocca finished his career at Rutgers with 10 goals and eight assists for 28 points, and missed just one start in 78 career games. In 2006, he started all 19 of RU's games and scored three goals, including RU's lone goal against No. 24 Rhode Island in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 11. LaBrocca also took 33 shots on the season, the third-highest total on the team. His play and outstanding leadership for the Scarlet Knights helped the team advance to the semifinals of the BIG EAST tournament and earn an at-large bid into the NCAA championships. LaBrocca was also named to the All-BIG EAST and the NSCAA All-Northeast Region's Second Teams.
One of just 58 college seniors invited to participate in this year's MLS soccer combine held from Jan. 5-8, LaBrocca had an impressive showing in front of coaches and general managers from all 13 major league soccer teams. He was one of just seven BIG EAST players selected in the draft.
The last Scarlet Knight player to be drafted by a MLS team was Karcz, who was chosen in the third round of the league's inaugural Supplemental Draft in February, 2005.
