Ebbe Sand's phenomenal scoring rate at his first club, Brondby, made him a hugely popular figure with the fans there and catapulted him onto the international stage.
He was used as a substitute at France 1998 but, as a useful target man, he has become an automatic choice for his country.
He set a record at the last World Cup when he scored the fastest goal ever as a substitute, just 16 seconds after coming off the bench against Nigeria.
The next year Sand moved to the German Bundesliga to play for Schalke.
He has been there ever since and also scored for them in this season's Champions League.
