The Eagles have played their last game. The last season was 2004-2005 when they were the Marlboro Sports Club Under 13 A team competing in the top division of the Cardiff and District League. For five seasons the team graced the playing fields of Cardiff, from September 2000 to April 2005. The players that made up the final squad elected to seek positions with other local clubs and I intend to document their progress on these pages. |

Former Eagles...Get in Touch! Tell Us What's Happening!
A synopsis of the Eagles existance can be found on the "Eagles Story Page" Click the book for the EAGLE STORY!
Detailed accounts of each of the Eagle Seasons together with hundreds of photos are in 5 individual sections on the right.
Season 2005/ Heol Hir 4 Lisvane Panthers 4 (Llanishen HS) The (now U14) league continues without the Eagles! But former Eagles continue to play for various teams in the Cardiff League. On Oct 8 2005 I witnessed an encounter between Heol Hir and Lisvane Panthers which contained no fewer than Seven former Eagles! Declan and Dave appeared for Lisvane while the Heol Hir ranks included Niall, Mike, Owen, Tyrone and Ross ! An exciting match produced 8 goals and at the end there were few complaints at the outcome of 4-4. Lisvane Panthers 6 Heol Hir 1 (Pontcanna) The reverse fixture of the above saw Lisvane outplay Heol going out winners 6-1 on an extremely windy morning. This time a few less ex-Marlboro lads on display with Niall and Dave injured but Declan was again in the Lisvane ranks and Owen, Tyrone, Mike and Ross appearing for Heol Hir. Declan appeared in goal for Lisvane and has been doing for a couple of months now!
Dec and Dave then went on to appear in the u14 cup final where the Panthers finished Runners Up at Taffs Well FC ground. Other Eagles were appearing for Rumney (Matthew) Capitol Truck B (Aaron after moving from Fairwater), Danescourt (Rhys) and James (Capitol Truck)
A couple of notable achievements by ex-Eagles in the summer following the season were Welsh Championship titles for Declan (Athletics, 800m) and Niall (Tennis)
Season 2006/7 Unfortunately, Heol Hir folded at the end of 2005/6 so the poor old Eagles that joined HH that season found themselves without a club yet again! However, a reunion of many Eagles took place at Lisvane Panthers A! As mentioned above the Panthers already had Declan and Dave on their books. Declan by this time was Lisvane's full time keeper having made a successful conversion the previous season. Now joining the Panthers from HH were Ross, Owen and Mike. Niall decided to devote himself full time to his increasingly successful tennis career. What of the Marlboros? At the end of the 2004/5 season there were 3 Marlboros in the Eagles age group but at the start of the 2005/6 campaign two (including the Eagles) had disappeared from the league tables, leaving only one. The remaining side was formerly Marlboro C and still continues in the B league. In fact one of our Eagles now turns out for them! Hassan who had been an Eagle since the early days (see photo on 2004/5 page) is the player concerned! Hassan struggled with injury though the previous 2 or 3 seasons and showed a lot of character to keep coming back. I know all the former Eagles wish him the very best in the future. If Hassan or his mum/dad/brother read this drop me a line to let me know how things are going. I know a little due to chatting with Robbie! As mentioned in the report above a number of the Eagles are now playing at Lisvane and Heol Hir but I've yet to witness the playing presence of any other Eagles yet but I will document any sightings here! I will witness first hand former Eagles playing against Declan (at Lisvane Panthers) but I also have contacts at Heol Hir! Unfortunately, the Eagles didn't get to meet up at the Presentation evening for 2004/5 due to the non-reception of invites from the club, a disappointment for the lads, especially those who had played football with Arthur Nurse since the age of 6 before Dermot (with Mike) agreed to give up his time and run the side. As well as the demise of the Eagles, Marlboro B also didn't appear in the leagues for the 2005/6 season. I'm afraid I have no information on this as I haven't seen any of the lads since the season began. If any of the Marlboro B guys are reading this...let us know the story! Other Marlboro age groups seem to have suffered too...looking through the tables on the new Yellow Jersery site I notice that there isn't a side in the U16, U15 or u13 competitions from Marlboro. There is a web site on the main Marlboro site for what would now be the U13 but it's labelled U12 and gives details on their u11 season! That particular team I think failed to finish the 2004/5 season as all their results seem to have been expunged from the YJ information tables. Unfortunately, the main Marlboro site is not strong on team information/results/progress. I'd willingly put the records straight if anyone from Marlboro gets in touch if they spot some inaccuracies.
