Euro 2008 Final Preview

29/06/2008:

The Ernst Happel Stadium is the venue for the 2008 European Championships Final, where pre-tournament favourites Germany take on Spain for the title of European Champions. To mark this amazing occasion, two leading bookmakers, Betfair and Skybet are giving away free bets up to the value of £25. Germany reached their sixth European Championship Final after a 3-2 victory over a workman-like Turkey in the semi-final. The game looked to be heading for extra-time but Philipp Lahm changed that with a last-gasp goal to send Germany through and Turkey home. The Germans were once again unconvincing and were saved by the woodwork on two occasions but in typical German style, they managed to get the job done and reach their first Euro Final for 12 years. A couple of positives for Germany are that once again Miroslav Klose was amongst the goals and his strike partner, Lukas Podolski, is currently the tournament’s MVP with three goals and two assists.

Spain reached their third finals after a 3-0 demolition of Russia. Once again, Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas was in scintillating form and the Spanish looked world-class with him on the pitch. His arrival for the injured David Villa, who will now miss the final, in the 34th minute, was the catalyst the game needed and he was behind every attacking move the Spaniards made. Goals from Xavi, Guiza and Silva in a half hour, second half spell saw Spain through comfortably. On paper, the Germans have the advantage having won eight and drawn six of the previous 19 encounters between the two sides but Spain seem to have hit form at the right time and should go into the final as favourites. Betfair and Skybet’s free bet offer is valid for the Euro 2008 European Championship final and can be used on such options as halftime score, correct score, total goals, first team to concede a corner and of course, who will emerge as European Champions.

Spain v Russia semi-final betting

25/06/2008:

Russia face Spain in Vienna for a place in the 2008 European Championship Final. The Spanish will be the more confident of the two teams after they demolished Russia 4-1 in the group stages but the Russians are a transformed team of late and will be harder to beat this time around. Leading bookmakers Betfair and Skybet are giving away up to £25 of free bets for this epic semi-final. Russia caused a major upset in their quarterfinal game, beating much-fancied Holland by three goals to one. Once again, Andrei Arshavin put in an excellent performance and scouts from clubs around the world will be telling their manager all about him. Gus Hiddink’s team were well-deserved winners and if they play their fast, counter-attacking football against Spain they could cause another upset and reach the final. It is the sixth time Russia has made the semis, having last reached them in 1988 when they played under the Soviet Union.

Spain needed extra time and penalties to dispatch World Champions Italy in the quarterfinals. Both teams played out a dire goalless draw and Spain looked a shadow of the team that started so brilliantly in the group stages. However, history is on the side of the Spanish with them winning three of the four meetings between the two sides and the fact that the last time Spain reached the semi-final, in 1984, they progressed to the final. Both teams are capable of scoring plenty of goals and the game promises to be an open affair. Spain’s David Villa is still the competition’s top-scorer with four goals and will want to add to his tally to take home the Golden Boot. Betfair and Skybet are offering free bets for this crucial game that has so much at stake. The free bets can be used to bet with market leading odds on options such as first goal scored, number of corners conceded, if the game will end in 90 minutes and who will progress to the European Championship Final.
