Spring 09 Coaching Clinics
The Spring 09 coaching clinics will be held on the afternoon of Feb 22 at the Bergstrom Indoor Practice Facility, with separate groups for U5-U8 and U9-U12 coaches. The clinics will be free of charge to ASC coaches, but you must register. Contact Gary Eyles at 515-360-5117 or garykix@mchsi.com.
Spring Commitment for U11-U14 Players
U11-U14 players will be asked to commit to their teams for Spring 09 with a $50 deposit by January 15. (A simple form will go up in this space shortly.) The remainder of the registration fees will be due March 15. All payments should be mailed to the club's address: PO Box 423, Ames, IA 50010.
Congratulations!
Several Ames U11-U14 teams played in the Johnston Fall Soccerfest October 3-4, and all did well. Among the highlights: U11 Boys, champions; U12 Boys, champions; U13 Boys semifinalists. The U14 boys handed the their division's champion its only loss.
The ASC U15 boys took the championship at the Council Bluffs Fall Invitational tournament Sept 20-21!
The U16 boys came home runners up, with only 9-12 players!

Our local U5-U10 games are played in a local league we administer, the Central Iowa Soccer League (CISL, pronounced "sizzle"). Game schedules, rules, directions to other fields, and all that stuff are posted on the league web site: www.cisleague.org.
Ames Soccer Club Player named one of Top 100 in USA!
Ilias Lasley, a member of the Ames Soccer U15 Boys, recently participated in a training camp for the top 100 players in the United States. Ilias was selected to the camp after impressing coaches at a regional Olympic Development Program (ODP) camp where he played for the 1995 Iowa ODP team. After the camp, 36 players were invited back to a hold over camp and then this group was cut down to a group of 25 who participated in a national training camp in Boston, MA August 3-9th. Ilias joined up with the top players from each of the other three regions making up US youth soccer. This is truly a great honor for Ilias and takes him a step closer to possibly making the US National U15 team next year. Ilias is proudly supported by his parents, Sarah and Eric Lasley. It's a consignment shop, where they will sell the item for 50-60% of the retail price and the previous owner gets 40% of the sale price. Bring your used items in anytime throughout the year. Coach Licensing Policy
ASC has, for many years, supported coach training. Our goasl is that 100% of our coaches (parent and staff) will have appropriate USSF coaching certificates/licenses by the beginning of their second year with the club. This includes coaches for every age group from U5-U19. Toward that end, the club increased its coach training budget, to ensure that we can provide this training free of charge to parent-coaches and staff, and we are comitting to holding the courses in Ames quite regularly.
