Congratulations to Elm Grove SC Staff Coach and Marquette HS Head Coach Steve Lawrence for leading Marquette High School to the WIAA Div. I State Championship with a 5 – 0 win over Muskego HS. MUHS finished the season 22-2-1 with an impressive 109 goals for and 7 goals against, ranked #1 in the State throughout the season and is currently ranked #8 in the NSCAA National Rankings. Congratulations also goes out to four Elm Grove SC players who helped MUHS win the WIAA State Championship, Jack McDermott and Stefan Olson on our U17 team, Dominic Clark and Jacob Stack who play for our U16 team. The Elm Grove Soccer Club is very proud of your accomplishments. The Elm Grove Soccer Club (EGSC) is pleased to announce the addition of Bob Gansler to the coaching staff. Widely regarded as a pioneer of modern American soccer, Coach Gansler was head coach of the United States National Team from 1989-1991 and guided our country to the 1990 World Cup, the first appearance in 40 years. As a result of Coach Gansler’s vision and foresight, the United States has been a fixture at every World Cup since. After settling in Milwaukee as a youth, Coach Gansler made his mark on the local scene as a player and coach with the Bavarian Soccer Club, whom he led to a US Amateur Cup championship. Coach Gansler established the Marquette High School soccer program in 1973 and coached UW-Milwaukee from 1984 through 1988. Additionally, Coach Gansler was a fixture as a player with the United States National Team in the 1960’s. He captained the Americans at the 1964 and 1968 Olympics as well as at the 1967 Pan American games. Coach Gansler’s professional coaching resume includes the Milwaukee Rampage of the USL A-League (1996-1998), the Kansas City Wizards of MLS (1999-2006) and Toronto FC of MLS (2006 and 2007.) Coach Gansler won a league title with Milwaukee in 1997 and won the MLS Cup in 2000 and the US Open Cup in 2004, both with Kansas City. EGSC Director of Coaching, Bob Spielmann, is very proud and excited to have Coach Gansler on board. Said Coach Spielmann, “Coach Gansler brings a wealth of soccer knowledge and has been very successful at every level he has coached. His main focus in Elm Grove will be coaching and player development. Coach Gansler will certainly help our coaches become better technical and tactical teachers of the game thereby helping all of our players improve.” In recognition of his achievements, honors bestowed upon Coach Gansler include the Walt Chyzowych Award (2000), the MLS Coach of the Year Award (2000), and induction into the Milwaukee Rampage and United Soccer Leagues Halls of Fame (2002.) In addition to his work with EGSC, Coach Gansler remains a consultant for the Wisconsin Olympic Development Program and the United States Soccer Federation.
U14 Select Team at the Racine Lighthouse Tournament The U14 Select team faced a extremely strong side from Wauwatosa. Right from the gate it was a back and forth match with many scoring opportunities. At the end of the match, both teams were still in 0-0 deadlock. To decide the winner we headed into penalty kicks. It came down to the fifth shooter for each team and when the Tosa Kickers player hit the post all we had to do was get one more in the back of the net. In true Elm Grove Soccer Club fashion, our boys kept their composure and put the final shot in the back of the net. Victorious over all of their competition, the boys celebrated their well deserved victory on the field. It was a great experience for all. Three Football Legends
For the first time since June 2005 the Elm Grove Soccer Club hosted a game in the Village Park. The above picture is of Coach McNamara and the U11 boys premier team just prior to kickoff on Saturday, September 27th. The Village Park has been closed for the better part of 3 ½ years due to a flood management reconstruction project. While the project is completed, the U11/U12 fields adjacent to the pond and library proved to be the only fields playable as of the beginning of the fall season. The park is open for general use but the club has kept closed the space on the north end of the park for soccer usage to ensure the surface is ready for the rigors of soccer playing. To further this process, the club recently facilitated a three-step fertilization and over-seeding program to be completed before snowfall.
