EFF announces new Prize Money for 2008/9 Season EPL Championship
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - The provisional Executive Committee of the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) announced new prize money for the 2008/9 season EPL Champion, Star Player, Top Goal Scorer, Coach and Referee at a press conference held at the Addis Ababa Stadium yesterday.

The EFF also announced similar prize money increase for the Ethiopian National League (ENL), a lower division competition involving 24 teams.

Harar Beer shocks EEPCO, St.George in driver's seat
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - Harar Beer of Harari Region shocked Addis Ababa City Cup winner EEPCO (1-2) and Insurance beat South Police here on Saturday.
 
Defending champion St. George moved up to first place on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Nyala, while Ethiopian Banks climbed to third with a 3-1 victory over visiting Trans Ethiopia of Mekelle. Hawassa City took home field advantage over Defense Force (1-0), while Metehara Sugar and Mugher Cement drew scoreless with Adama City and Ethiopian Coffee respectively. Check League Standings

Defence defeates Dire Dawa City 3-1, Trans beats Sebeta City 1-0
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - In Week 2 of the EPL, Defence Forces defeated Dire Dawa City 3-1 with 2 goals coming from top scorer Oumed Oukri and Insurance and Banks SC could only tie (1-1) in last night's double header here in the capital. Meanwhile, Metehara dropped a valuable point at home with EEPCO (0-0), Trans Ethiopia beat Sebeta City 1-0, Adama City vs South Police and Harar Beer vs Nyala ended in scoreless ties.
 
The league will continue tonight in Ambo as Mugher Cement hosts St. George and Hawassa City faces Ethiopian Coffee at home. Oumed Oukri (Defence), who comes from the Gambella region, leads the goal scorers chart with 3 goals in 2 games.

St. George kicks off season with 2-0 win over Hawassa City
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - Defending champion St. George kicked off the 8th season of the Ethiopian Premier League (EPL) with a 2-0 win over rival Hawassa City (formerly known as Awassa City) here on Saturday. The league, which now has been extended to 16 teams, features seven teams from the capital, four from Oromia, two from SNNP and one each from Dire Dawa, Tigray and Harari Regions.
 
Two new teams that have been promoted this year are: Sebeta Kenema Sebeta City) and Debub Police (Southern Police) from Oromia and SNNP Regions respectively.
