The Netherlands Antilles national football team is the national team of the Netherlands Antilles and is controlled by the Nederlands Antilliaanse Voetbal Unie. Aruba split in 1986 and has its own team.

The Netherlands Antilles team has never qualified for the World Cup. The country managed to come third in the CONCACAF championships of 1963 and 1969; for four days in March 1963 they could have been regarded as unofficial World Champions, beating Mexico 2-1 before losing to Costa Rica 0-1.

[edit] Future

On November 28, 2005, an agreement was signed between the Dutch government and the governments of each island that would put into effect in December, 2008 the findings of a commission into the constitutional future of the islands[1].

Two new associated states within the Kingdom of the Netherlands are to be formed, Curaçao and Sint Maarten, which may have be eligible for recognition as international teams; Sint Maarten is already a member of CONCACAF.

Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius would become directly part of the Netherlands as the Kingdom Islands, and no announcement has yet been made as to whether they will have separate representation, probably they will preserve the name Netherlands Antilles for sport questions.
