Warwick, RI's Recreational and Competitive Soccer Club Since 1984. Promoting having fun while learning and playing soccer!

Webpage Last Revised: 8:00 AM, 11/22/2008

Indoor Soccer is underway and seems to be going well. There are more teams than ever before.

The new registration process worked well. Registration for second session will begin in December.

Good luck to all the teams playing indoor.

Indoor Competitive Soccer Registration

If you have been told that your child has been placed on a competitive indoor team, register using the Player Registration link in the menu on the left.

Coach Appreciation Day

Thanks to the 30+ coaches who attended the game and after-the-game pizza. It was a great opportunity for the coaches from all age divisions to get to know each other a little better. The pizza from Crusty's Pizza was especially appreciated. WFFSC looks forward to doing this again in the near future.

Select Program 2008-2009

WFFSC is preparing the Select Program for the upcoming year. Division Coordinators have been selected for each division and they will have responsibility for organizing and executing the tryout process for the selection of the indoor teams. Tryouts will be scheduled for the last of September and early October. Indoor soccer will start at end of October. WFFSC looks forward to another successful year.

Division Coordinators and currently known tryout schedule are posted under Select Program menu item.

Info about tryouts will added as dates are determined.

Time when age divisions play at Teamworks may be found here.

Players should tryout in their appropriate age division. The division is based on the age of the player on July 31, 2008. If the child was 7 on that date, then they play U8. If they were 8 on that date, then they would play U10. Similarly for other divisions.

In order to provide better and easier service to the indoor coaches and also to better control the payments at Teamworks, WFFSC will move to a more controlled system for indoor registrations this year. Please bear with us as we work out the kinks. The basic plan is to have everyone register for indoor similar to the way registrations are handled for outdoor with fees paid either online (preferred) or by check ($5 processing fee). A base fee ($90 per player per session, there are two sessions per winter season) will be charged each session to all players to cover the fees at Teamworks. This will alleviate some of the coaches administration headaches and provide better control so that a coach or the club does not end up on the short end of the stick at the end of the season. More information will be coming on this new process.

WFFSC Needs Sponsors!

In order to keep fees down, the club relies on sponsors to help reduce the costs for each team. See the item in the menu on the left for additional information on sponsorship packages. If you have questions, send email to Ellen Dorsen at Lngail61@aol.com.

Information and Upcoming Schedule for Fall Rec and Select

Opening Day for Fall Rec is Sept 6 for the U6/U8/U10 divisions. First games for U12/U15 will be during the week after Labor Day. All teams are scheduled for at least 8 games with the older teams playing more games. Season runs through end of October.

U6 teams are co-ed and play games Saturday mornings at Winslow. Practices are Wednesday evenings, 5:30-6:30 at Winslow. Practices are run by professional trainer who helps the typically new coaches learn how to run a practice for future. Games are on two side-by-side fields with 4v4 on each field (no goalies). Coaches are allowed on fields as well.

All other teams for fall are gender-based. U8 and U10 teams play Saturday mornings with perhaps a game or two during the week. U8 play on two fields with 4v4 (no goalies). U10 games are 6v6 with goalies. All games for U8 and U10 are at Winslow.

The U12 and U15 teams play in a mini-league with other clubs (WSA and East Greenwich). The U12 and U15 games will be at the Confreda Sports Complex otherwise known as Bend Street. U12's play 8v8 and U15's play 11v11. Games will be during the week and on Saturdays with each team having one or two games a week. Last year boys played Monday, Wednesday, and Saturdays and girls played Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays (I expect it to be the same this year, but this has not been finalized).

Practice times for all U8 and older teams are up to the coach depending on his/her schedule and available grass on which to hold the practice. Typically the practice is during the week in the evenings.

Select soccer (otherwise known as Competitive or Travel) typically starts with indoor at beginning of November. A division coordinator plus coaches will be selected by the Board in July/August with tryouts organized by the division coordinator taking place in mid to late September. After tryouts, teams are formed and assigned to coaches for indoor soccer that runs through first of April. Teams for outdoor spring SuperLiga season are formed in January by the coaches in conjunction with the Board. Spring season starts in early April and runs into June. The team may play into summer depending on tournaments in which they decide to play.

New Action Photo Service For WFFSC Members

In addition to the traditional team photos that will continue, WFFSC has added an additional service for you to get pictures of your soccer players. RI Sports Photo will be taking action shots during games for parents to view and purchase. Some pictures were taken at the end of last season. To preview these pictures and to view new ones during the upcoming season, go to the following web site: risportsphoto.com.
