Carmel United U15/U16 Men's Development Academy are US Soccer Federation National Champions

U16 Boys National Championship Team Photo
Carmel, Indiana (July 19, 2008). The Carmel United United States Soccer Federation (USSF) U16 Men's Developmental Academy team has won the most prestigious national championship in Youth Soccer.  The team prevailed in the (national) championship game of the inaugural Development Academy Finals Week.  Previously, the team captured the Great Lakes Conference (regional) Championship thereby earning a spot in the Development Academy Finals Week.  The team finished the year with a 20 game unbeaten streak.

Demonstrating sustained brilliance, the team's record was 25 wins, 2 losses and 7 ties, which was the best record in the entire nation (among the 64 Development Academy teams, which were selected by US Soccer as the top teams in the U.S.). The team tied the U.S. Men's U17 National team and defeated the defending national champions and six #1 teams from other Conferences. The team has 2 U.S. National team members - Harrison Petts and Austin Oldham, who were also named to the U16 Academy Starting XI (the U16 "all-american" first team).  Joining Petts and Oldham on the Great Lakes Conference Starting XI were Michael Wignot and AJ Corrado.  Congratulations to all of the players, Coach of the Year Costa, Joe Sochacki, 2007-08 Director of Coaching - Senior Boys and team manager Bobbie White.

Carmel United U13 Girls Are Region II Champions

U13 Girls Academy 95 Regional Champs
Carmel, Indiana (June 25, 2008). Carmel United offers its congratulations to our U13 Girls Academy team for winning the Region II Championship. The girls defeated KCFC (Kansas) 1 to 0 in the championship game. This is a special, rare and unique achievement. In winning the Regional Championship, the team becomes only the 8th team in the history of Indiana Youth Soccer (and the 7th Carmel United team) to win a United States Youth Soccer Regional Championship. The Girls are also the youngest team in the existence of Indiana Youth Soccer to win a Regional Championship, an achievement that can never be broken. Congratulations to all of the players, coach Ralph Richards, and team manager Tim Kirkoff. Carmel United has now won regional championships in consecutive years, which is another first for the state of Indiana.

Ben Elo and Michael Treinen
Ben Elo Memorial Logo
Carmel United Soccer Club is dedicating the 2008-09 season in loving memories of Ben Elo, a Carmel United player, and Michael Treinen, the brother of two Carmel United players.  Please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers.  In honor and memory of Ben, the above logo will be worn by Ben's teammates on the U15 Boys Academy team this year.

Ben Elo was a young man you couldn't help but cheer for.  From his great success on the soccer field, to his many academic accolades, Ben was a brillant, buoyant person with a bright future ahead of him.  He was a loving son and grandson, and a great brother and friend.  Ben's CUSC team won the state championship in 2008.  Ben was very competitve, and no matter his successes in soccer, he was always hungry for more.  His dream was to play soccer at the University of Notre Dame, taking the field for the fighting Irish.  He watched ESPN and the Soccer Channel almost non-stop.  Ben was a remarkable young man, gifted and talented, thoughtful and faithful.  He was a great athlete, a good student, and an even better son, grandson, brother and friend.  There are many things about this world we do not understand but this much we do:  Ben was a gift to us, a gift we will love and cherish and remember forever.  To read more about Ben, please refer to the following web site link.
