Williams penalty
keeps robins singing in the fog.
Gap Connahs Quay Nomads 3 - 3 Newtown
Craig Williams fired a penalty a minute from time to rescue a point
for Newtown to keep their unbeaten run to four games going. In difficult conditions
due to fog, the Robins got off to a flyer with Mark Griffiths collecting a Richard Williams-Cooke through ball to smash passed
Chris Maxwell with only a minute gone, and the Robins double their lead within four minutes, again Griffiths broke down the
left and his low centre was poked home by Gavin Cadwallader.
Nomads got a lifeline when a quick Adam
Worton free kick let in Peter Doren who beat David Jones via the post before Liam Loughlin broke down the right and his cross
was met by Doren to head his side level all within twenty five minutes.
Aden Shannon fired at Jones while Maxwell
saved on his line as Newtown tried to scramble a corner over the line. Jones misjudged a cross but Danny Jellicoe was needed
on the line.
With the fog making playing conditions
more difficult referee Brian James decided to start the second half.
It
was the home side who adapted well to the fog with Jones denying Loughlin from long range before saving at the feet of Doren.
With both sets of players struggling to see more then 20 yards, Nomads took the lead when Adam Dickinson broke clear and scored
after Jones had parried his initial effort. Newtown pushed on in the final ten minutes, Gareth Mansell put over the bar when
well placed before Stuart Vernon volleyed over. The equaliser came when Vernon fired in a cross which hit a Nomads arm and
James came out of the fog to point to the spot. Williams beat Maxwell to his right to gain a share of the points.
