FIFA Consultant Approves Field

Harrison at the BFA Field
IslandStats.com
Dr. Eric Harrison a consultant to the FIFA GOAL Project is in Bermuda to see the progress of the Bermuda Football Associations Field in Prospect and has given it a Thumbs Up at this stage.

Harrison told www.islandstats.com, “The project is in it’s 3rd stage and should be completed before Christmas, as you have seen the Turf is being laid and the next step is the stitching”.

“FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has a clear idea when it comes to raising the standards of the beautiful game. "As football's world governing body, we have a responsibility to support any move to improve football equipment," he said. "In raising the standards of footballs and football turf surfaces, the FIFA Quality Concept will also help improve the level of the game", said Harrison

“I wrote the standard for the usage of the Artificial Surfaces used by FIFA, so they have contracted me as a consultant to survey the fields as the process is going on to make sure that the standard is kept”, continued Harrison.

Harrison went on to say, “With this surface the BFA Field can be used multiple times and the players will be able to do all the things they are accustomed to do on a natural surface”.

“This 3 Generation Field Turf has a 8 year warranty and with a low maintenance we see is as a positive step for the Bermuda Football Association”, concluded Harrison.

General Secretary of the Bermuda Football Association David Sabir said, “We are pleased with the progress and are very happy that we have a green light thus far, we are hoping to have activity on the surface as soon as possible as this is what we have the facility for”.

Mr. Harrison will be back the 1st week in January to officially Sign the documents and hand over the field to the Bermuda Football Association and we are looking forward to that”, concluded Sabir.

IslandStats.com
Back on May 6th 2008, the then President of the Bermuda Football Association Larry Mussenden, announce the start of construction on the new BFA Field, known as the Gym Field, located in Prospect, Devonshire next to the Police Compound.

A FIFA Inspector came to Bermuda to inspect those works recently for the signoff, but due to some concerned that he had the signoff was delayed.

Since which the synthetic surface is in the process of going down a process that will take 2 -3 weeks by a FieldTurf installation team.

Mussenden said back then, “This new facility will become the associations new Technical Centre for football throughout Bermuda paving the way as it will supplement existing facilities, allowing the BFA to run its development programmes yearly and providing a valuable training resource for all national teams whenever required. This also includes clubs who would like to train/practice. The facility will have floodlights as well. This will be an historical moment for the BFA because this will be the first ever field facility they can house its own training and development programmes”.

The overall cost is $1.3million, funded through the FIFA Goal program, and the BFA.
